What Is Browser Recognition?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Browser Recognition refers to the process by which web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and others, recognise and validate SSL Certificates<\/a> presented by websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secure Sockets Layers, or SSLs, are cryptographic protocols that encrypt the data sent between a server and a browser to provide internet communication security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An encrypted channel for information exchange is established with these certificates between the web server and the browser. The browser\u2019s capacity to trust the SSL provider is a prerequisite for trust between a browser and a server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browser Recognition Process<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When servers and browsers connect, the following process takes place:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The browser requests identification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The server sends a copy of the SSL Certificate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The browser then checks whether it trusts the SSL.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. When the browser establishes trust thanks to the SSL Certificate, it replies to the server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. The server returns a digitally signed acknowledgement to start an SSL-encrypted session.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Encrypted data can now be shared between the browser and the server.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    How SSL Certificate Trusts Works<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    When an SSL certificate is issued by a Certificate Authority (CA) that the browser trusts, the browser verifies the issuer\u2019s source before displaying the secured website\u2019s content. If the certificate is self-signed or issued by an unrecognised Certificate Authority<\/a>, the browser may display a security alert or warning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
