There are times when moving a domain or hosting service from one 1-grid profile to another is necessary as an inter-account transfer, whether due to a change in ownership for a specific service or domain, account restructuring, or a handover to a new person or business.
We understand that transfers can feel uncertain because they involve multiple parties and backend changes, which is why we’ve designed this process to be clear and straightforward.
This guide will explain how the transfer works, the difference between inter-account transfers and a full change of ownership, what is required from each party, and what you can expect at every step, so your service move is secure, seamless, and stress-free.

Inter-Account Transfer vs. Change of Ownership
An inter-account transfer moves specific domains or hosting services from one 1-grid profile to another, while both accounts remain active. A Change of Ownership (COO), on the other hand, transfers full control of an entire 1-grid account, including all linked services, to a new owner. This means that if you only need to move individual services, it would be an inter-account transfer.
How an Inter-Account Transfer Works
When you move a domain or hosting service between 1-grid profiles, you are changing which 1-grid account owns those services. This can be useful when:
- You sell or transfer ownership of a website or business
- You restructure accounts
- You consolidate services under one profile
How Outstanding Invoices Are Handled During a Transfer
We know that billing arrangements can feel sensitive when services are moving between profiles. Our goal is to make this part of the process transparent, fair, and stress-free for both parties, so you can move forward with confidence and clarity.
If there are any outstanding invoices on the current owner’s account, you have two clear, flexible options so you can choose what works best for your situation.
Your Options (Step-by-Step)
1: The Current Owner Settles the Balance (Simplest Route)
- The current owner confirms that they will take responsibility for the outstanding invoice.
- The invoice is paid in full on the current owner’s profile.
- Once payment is reflected, we proceed with the service transfer.
- Confirmation of the completed transfer is sent to both parties.
This option supports a clean handover with no billing carried over to the new owner.
2: The New Owner Takes Responsibility (Flexible Route)
- The current owner confirms in writing that the new owner will take responsibility for the outstanding balance.
- The new owner also confirms this in writing.
- One of the following then happens:
- The new owner settles the invoice before the transfer, or
- We cancel the invoice on the current owner’s account, complete the transfer, and reissue the invoice on the new owner’s profile.
- Once settled (or re-issued), we confirm completion of the transfer to both parties.
Selecting this option when moving forward allows for a smooth transition even when billing responsibility is changing hands.
Important to Know
- Invoices cannot be transferred between accounts, which is why a new invoice must be created if responsibility moves to the new owner.
- Written confirmation from both parties helps us protect everyone involved and avoid misunderstandings.
Step-by-Step Transfer Instructions
Below are the steps required to complete a service inter-account transfer. All steps must be followed before we can take action on the request.
1. Submit Your Transfer Request
Send an email from the registered email address of the current owner to [email protected] with the following information:
- The services you want to transfer
- The originating profile customer code
- The receiving profile customer code
- The preferred invoicing option, and
- CC the new owner in for written consent on all the above from their end
IMPORTANT: This gives our team everything they need to start the process without back-and-forth emails.
2. Copy the New Profile Owner
Copy the person or company taking over the services in your request email.
Why this matters:
This confirms everyone involved is aware and ready to participate. It also helps to avoid delays and misunderstandings and ensures transparency and agreement between both parties.
3. Receiving Party Confirms Acceptance
The new account holder must reply to that same email and confirm that they accept the service transfer.
IMPORTANT: This protects you and the new owner and ensures that only services with shared consent are moved.
4. We Action the Transfer
Once both sides have confirmed, our Billing team will process the transfer on the back end.
You’ll receive confirmation once the transfer is complete.
How to View Your Moved Services
After the transfer is completed:

- Log in to your 1-grid Customer Zone
- Go to Domains
- Use the search bar if you don’t see the moved domain immediately
TIP: This is a quick way to confirm ownership has transferred correctly.
Hosting and Other Services

- Go to Services
- Locate the moved hosting package
TIP: Everything should now be neat under your new profile.
