Keeping your website on Wix and your email hosted with 1-grid is a popular and reliable setup. When your domain connects to Wix by updating your nameservers to Wix, your DNS may change. This can cause email interruptions until the mail (MX) record is updated to point back to 1-grid.
This guide helps you securely restore your mail routing, so your 1-grid email continues working smoothly, no matter where your website is hosted.

Why Updating This Mail Record Matters
Your MX (Mail Exchange) record tells the internet where to deliver your emails.
If your domain is connected to Wix, they may automatically:
- Replace your mail records with Wix defaults
- Remove your 1-grid MX / SPF / DKIM entries
- Move your DNS zone to Wix (if using their nameservers)
When the MX record no longer points to 1-grid:
- Emails stop arriving
- Senders receive bounce-backs
- Email forwarding stops
- Delivery becomes unreliable
Updating the MX record ensures all your incoming mail returns to the 1-grid mail servers.
When You Need to Update Your Mail Record
You should update your MX record if:
- You recently changed your nameservers to Wix
- You pointed your A and CNAME to Wix, and emails stopped afterwards
- Your Wix dashboard shows a DNS error for “Mail not connected”
- You are receiving bounce-backs or no longer receiving mail
- You want 1-grid to host email while your site stays on Wix
- You moved DNS management from 1-grid → Wix
Steps to Point Your Mail Record from Wix
To make sure that you get a smooth connection, follow the steps below.

If You’re Using 1-grid Nameservers Instead
If your domain’s DNS is still managed at 1-grid (not Wix), update your MX record here:
cPanel:
Domains → Zone Editor → Edit MX record
Plesk:
Websites & Domains → DNS Settings → Add/Update MX
Customer Zone (for DNS-only domains):
Domains → DNS Management → MX Record
