Prevent specific IP addresses or networks from accessing your website to mitigate malicious traffic.
This guide will help you use the IP Blocker feature in cPanel to prevent specific IP addresses or networks from accessing your website. Whether you’re dealing with suspicious traffic, unwanted visitors, spam activity, or repeated login attempts, IP Blocker provides a simple way to restrict access and improve website security. The process is reversible, takes only a few minutes, and does not modify your website files or content on your 1-grid Customer Zone hosting account.

Before You Begin
Before restricting network access via cPanel, make sure you have:
- Access to your 1-grid Customer Zone
- An active legacy web hosting account using cPanel
- The specific domain name you want to protect
- The exact IP address or network range you intend to block
💡 Important: Every visitor connecting to your website uses an IP address. IP blocking is one layer of website security and works best when combined with strong passwords, updated software, and other security measures.
Follow These Steps
1. Open cPanel
Log in to your 1-grid Customer Zone, locate the web hosting service associated with your domain, and select Login to cPanel.
2. Open IP Blocker
In your cPanel dashboard interface, scroll down to the Security cluster section and click IP Blocker. This will open the management module for custom firewalls.
3. Add an IP Address or Range
In the IP Address or Domain field, enter the network criteria you want to block. The module supports the following formats:
- Single IP Address: e.g.,
10.5.3.33 - Full IP Range: e.g.,
10.5.3.3-10.5.3.40 - Shortened Range: e.g.,
10.5.3.3-40 - CIDR Format: e.g.,
10.5.3.3/32 - Wildcard Range: e.g.,
10.(Important: Entering10.blocks every IP beginning with 10.*.*.*).
4. Save the Block
Click the Add button. Wait for the green system confirmation alert to display. The rule is now applied, and the network profile is active on your blocked list.
5. View Blocked IP Addresses
Scroll down to the Currently Blocked IP Addresses section table. Here you can verify the rule parameters, including the Server Setting (CIDR format), Beginning IP, and Ending IP configurations.
6. Remove a Blocked IP Address
If you need to restore network access for an address or range:
- Locate the target line item under Currently Blocked IP Addresses.
- Confirm the prompt by selecting Remove IP to instantly drop the firewall rule.
What Happens Next?
Once saved, cPanel updates its server configurations immediately to block matching incoming traffic requests.
- Immediate Drops: Blocked connections will receive a standard access denied message.
- Review Protocol: Before leaving the dashboard, confirm you have not blocked your own IP, record why the rule was created, and monitor your How to View Website Visitor Logs to verify traffic drop metrics.
Important Things to Know
- Changes Take Effect Quickly: Most server-level access rules deploy almost immediately across our network cluster.
- Blocking Is Reversible: Access rules can be managed, modified, or dropped entirely at any point.
- Be Careful with IP Ranges: Blanket blocking large ranges or wildcards may unintentionally block real, legitimate consumers or local lookup bots.
- Dynamic IP Addresses Exist: Many internet service providers regularly cycle subscriber IP addresses, meaning a malicious entity could reconnect later using a completely different configuration string.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Accidentally blacklisting your own local home or office IP address.
- Blocking massive regional network blocks unnecessarily instead of target addresses.
- Assuming basic IP blocker rules stop application-level exploits or malicious code injections.
- Inputting typos or invalid subnet configurations into the text fields.
- Leaving temporary event blocks running indefinitely after resolving a live problem.
If This Didn’t Work
Should a blocked user continue accessing your public pages, they may be utilising a Virtual Private Network (VPN), proxy pool, or mobile cellular data tower. If the server module throws an execution error, verify your hosting tier properties or check for global security profile conflicts before re-submitting.
You’re Ready!
You have successfully deployed custom server-level access rules using the cPanel IP Blocker. Many website security concerns can be reduced with simple access controls, giving you direct control over who can look up your digital assets.
