Connecting your 1-grid domain to your Wix website is simple, and you can choose the method that works best for you: DNS Pointing (A/CNAME) or Wix Nameservers.
This guide explains important requirements, step-by-step instructions, and when to contact 1-grid Support.

Before You Begin
Ensure the following before connecting your domain, especially:
- Your Wix website must be on a paid plan
Wix only allows custom domain connections on upgraded accounts. This means that if you are on a free plan, you need to upgrade your account to a paid plan before attempting to connect your domain to your Wix account.
- Disable DNSSEC, Cloudflare or any DNS proxy
Wix does not support DNSSEC on domains that have not been purchased/registered directly through Wix or transferred to them. They also do not support DNS proxies such as Cloudflare.
Pointing vs. Nameserver Domain Connection Methods Explained
When connecting your 1-grid domain to Wix, you have two simple options, and the right choice depends on where you prefer your DNS (Domain Name System) records to live. To help you move forward with confidence, here’s a clear overview of each method so you can choose the setup that best supports your website, email, and long-term goals.
DNS Pointing (A & CNAME Records)
With pointing, your DNS remains safely hosted with 1-grid, and only your website traffic is directed to Wix. This is the recommended method if your email is hosted with 1-grid, or if you want to keep full control of your DNS records on our platform while still running your website on Wix.
Nameservers (Not Recommended)
With this method, Wix becomes the host of your DNS zone, allowing you to manage all DNS records directly inside your Wix account, and your website and DNS settings are handled entirely through Wix.
Connecting Your Domain by Pointing (A & CNAME Records)
When your email is hosted with us, use this method.
What this means:
- Only your website traffic routes to Wix.
- You keep full control of all DNS settings at 1-grid.
- Your email hosting remains unaffected, such as Webmail.
Wix provides two values for pointing:
- An A Record (your Wix IP address)
- A CNAME Record (“www” pointing to your Wix address)
You’ll find these in your Wix Dashboard under:
Site → Domain → Connect a Domain You Already Own → Pointing
Pointing via your Control Panel makes updating your DNS records simple, whether you are using cPanel or Plesk.
Connecting Your Domain Using Wix Nameservers
This method gives Wix full control over your DNS zone and requires you to update your namerservers.
What this means:
- Wix manages all DNS records.
- Fully automated Domain connection.
- Recreation of existing DNS records (like email records) inside Wix.
Quick Steps to Update Your Nameservers at 1-grid:
- Log in to your 1-grid Customer Zone
- Go to Domains
- Select your domain
- Click Nameservers
- Choose Use Custom Nameservers
- Enter the official Wix nameservers:
1. ns0.wixdns.net
2. ns1.wixdns.net
- Save your changes
- Allow up to 24 hours for global DNS propagation
FAQs
Q: Which method should I choose: Pointing or Nameservers?
Choose Name Servers if you want Wix to manage everything.
Choose Pointing if your email is hosted at 1-grid.
Q: How long does DNS propagation take?
Propagation may take up to 24 hours, depending on global DNS caching.
Q: Will my email be affected if I switch to Wix Nameservers?
Yes, your email DNS must be recreated in Wix. However, if you’re unsure, we recommend using Pointing instead.
Q: Does Wix support DNSSEC?
No, Cloudflare or any DNS proxy will prevent a successful domain connection, especially when your domain has not been purchased, registered or transferred through/to Wix.
