What's the difference between shared web hosting and VPS hosting?Shared web hosting is a smart way for multiple website owners to keep costs to a minimum by pooling together and sharing the resources of a single physical server. In other words, it's an energy-efficient communal arrangement that benefits individuals and businesses who would otherwise have to pay for unused or idle computing power. Most server machines are much more powerful than any one website would ever need, so it only makes sense. VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting, on the other hand, is where websites get allocated their private hardware resources that are not shared with any other customers. The main advantage of VPS hosting over shared hosting is that you get more performance and control over how you use your server's resources, but this comes at the cost of paying extra and having to configure your server at the operating system level. However, we also offer managed VPS hosting for those who want increased performance without the technical overhead of server administration.

Can I upgrade my shared hosting to VPS hosting?Yes, but take note that the process of upgrading from shared hosting to VPS hosting isn't automatic, as is the case when upgrading from one shared hosting plan to another. Switching to VPS hosting requires that you first purchase a new VPS hosting plan, after which you must transfer all your existing website files, databases, configurations, and so on, to your new virtual private server. Once your site's new home has been tested and confirmed to be working correctly, you can then cancel your old shared hosting plan. While the entire migration process isn't necessarily long or difficult (depending on the complexity of your website), it does require some technical know-how. Is shared web hosting secure?Yes. In fact, in many cases shared hosting can be more secure than other types of hosting such as VPS or dedicated hosting. This is because, with shared hosting, your server's physical hardware, operating system, and networking are all maintained and monitored by our experienced team of experts. Please be aware, however, that the security of your website application (e.g. WordPress) and other software that you install and run on top of your hosting plan is your own responsibility. If you are unsure about how best to secure your website (such as configuring a firewall), we recommend that you consult with a technical professional.

I registered my domain elsewhere. Can I still host it with you?Yes. Although we offer a free domain name with our shared hosting plans, sometimes a customer has already registered their domain at another domain registrar. Luckily, that's no problem at all. In this case, you have two options. The first is to simply transfer the domain from your existing registrar over to us. This process can be started by visiting our domain transfer page and following the instructions. The second option is to keep your domain at your existing registrar, while simply pointing the domain to your new 1-grid web hosting plan. To do so only requires that you set your domain's DNS host records to your hosting server's IP address. Once set, your domain’s DNS settings will direct visitors to the website that you are now hosting with us.

Can I transfer my existing website to you?Yes. If you already have a website with another hosting provider, you can switch to us at any point. All it takes is to copy your site's files, database/s, and configurations over to your new web hosting plan. Note that this process requires admin access at your existing hosting provider and a basic level of technical expertise.
