The wholesale registry fees for some of South Africa’s most widely used domain extensions are changing from 1 October 2026. The ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA) has confirmed a 6.2% adjustment to the registry fee for .co.za, .org.za, .net.za and .web.za domains.
If you own or manage one of these domains through 1-grid, there is no need to take immediate action. Your domain, website and email services will continue working as normal. However, the registry adjustment may affect domain registration and renewal pricing in future.
A .co.za domain remains a valuable and recognisable online identity for businesses, organisations and individuals serving the South African market. It signals a clear connection to South Africa and is familiar to local customers. The registry fee adjustment does not change the purpose, functionality or value of having a local domain for your business.
1-grid is currently reviewing the impact of the increase. Customers should keep a lookout for further communication from 1-grid closer to 1 October 2026, when any applicable pricing changes will be confirmed.
What exactly is changing?
ZADNA oversees South Africa’s .za domain namespace. From 1 October 2026, it will apply a 6.2% increase to the wholesale registry fees associated with:
- .co.za
- .org.za
- .net.za
- .web.za
This is a registry-level wholesale adjustment. It is not a direct 6.2% increase automatically applied to the price every customer pays. Registrars such as 1-grid set their own retail prices for registering and renewing domains after considering registry fees and the broader cost of delivering and supporting the service.
Will 1-grid’s domain prices increase?
1-grid is reviewing the effect of the new wholesale fees on our registration and renewal pricing. Our customer pricing has not yet been confirmed. This means customers should not assume that their 1-grid domain price will increase by exactly 6.2%.
If changes are made to the price of affected domain registrations or renewals, 1-grid will communicate the relevant details closer to the implementation date. Please keep an eye on emails and other updates from us as 1 October approaches.
Why are the registry fees increasing?
ZADNA applies a CPI-linked approach to its annual registry fee adjustments. According to ZADNA, the fees support the continued operation, security and development of South Africa’s domain-name ecosystem.
This includes investment in areas such as:
- Registry infrastructure
- DNS stability and resilience
- Cybersecurity
- Domain-name abuse management
- Regulatory and policy compliance
- Continued development of the .za namespace
Although this work largely happens behind the scenes, it helps maintain the systems that allow South African domains to operate reliably.
Will my domain, website or email be affected?
The registry fee change will not interrupt your services or change how your domain functions. Provided that your services remain active and your domain is renewed when required, everything will continue operating as normal.
What should 1-grid customers do now?
There is no immediate action required because of the registry announcement. However, it is a useful time to review the domains you manage and ensure that your account information is current.
We recommend that you:
- Log in to your 1-grid Customer Zone.
- Check the renewal dates of your domains.
- Confirm that your account and domain contact information is up to date.
- Review your domain portfolio and identify any domains you no longer need.
- Keep a lookout for further pricing communication from 1-grid closer to 1 October 2026.
If you manage several domains, reviewing their renewal dates can also help you plan for upcoming expenses once the final pricing has been announced.
What happens next?
For now, your domain will continue working as normal and no immediate changes are required.
1-grid will review the impact of the new registry fees and communicate any applicable customer pricing changes closer to the effective date. Please keep a lookout for updates from us as 1 October 2026 approaches.
