This position is based in Cape Town and is worked from our office. It is not a remote or hybrid role, so you'll need to be able to travel in every working day.

1-grid is a proudly South African web hosting company empowering entrepreneurs and SMEs to succeed online. We provide domains, hosting, email, security, and digital tools to help businesses build and grow their online presence.

This role is based in our Cape Town office and reports to the Head of Marketing. Hours are Monday to Friday, with flexi hours between 07:00 and 19:00.

Role Purpose

1-grid is looking for a Junior Website Developer to create and maintain websites for small businesses using our Website Builder platform. You'll turn customer briefs into attractive, functional websites, working closely with customers and our internal team from the first draft through to launch.

Training on the Website Builder platform will be provided. This role suits someone with a good eye for design, practical HTML and CSS skills, and the patience to get the details right.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Build responsive websites using 1-grid's drag-and-drop Website Builder.
  • Adapt layouts, images and content to suit each customer's business and brief.
  • Add custom HTML and CSS where needed.
  • Set up features such as contact forms, online stores and booking tools, depending on the customer's package.
  • Test websites on desktop and mobile, fixing layout, link and functionality issues before launch.
  • Make changes based on customer feedback and keep customers informed of progress.
  • Update and maintain existing customer websites.
  • Follow basic accessibility and SEO best practices.
  • Consultative solution selling.

What we are looking for

  • A portfolio or examples of websites you've built.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS. Basic JavaScript knowledge is an advantage.
  • Experience with a website builder, CMS or similar platform.
  • Good visual judgment and attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and a professional approach to customer feedback.
  • The ability to manage several projects and meet agreed deadlines.
  • A willingness to learn new tools and improve your skills.
