How to Point Your Domain to Wix via Plesk

Connecting your domain through Plesk ensures your DNS remains at 1-grid while your website lives on Wix. This is especially ideal if your email is hosted with 1-grid and you want full DNS control.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to point your domain to Wix via Plesk, from requirements to step-by-step updates, empowering you with clarity.

Why We Recommend Pointing to Wix

Pointing is the recommended method to connect to Wix because it:

  • Keeps your DNS managed at 1-grid, making it safer for email and add-ons.
  • Let’s direct only website traffic to Wix with minimal disruption.
  • Avoids resetting multiple DNS records when you already host email or other services here.

Things to Know Before You Begin

Making sure that you get a smooth connection, it is important to keep the following in mind:

1. Your Wix site must be on a paid plan

Wix only allows domain connections (pointing or nameservers) on a paid plan

2. DNSSEC is not supported by Wix

Please disable DNSSEC in your Customer Zone before proceeding if this is enabled.

3. A DNS proxy such as Cloudflare is not supported

Disabling Cloudflare or switching to the “DNS Only” (grey cloud) mode for all records is required if your domain uses Cloudflare, as the Wix connection will fail due to proxying.

Steps for Pointing Your Domain to Wix Using Plesk

Point your domain to Wix via Plesk by using the A record and CNAME record provided by Wix for your domain. The steps are easy to follow below.

1: Log into Plesk

2: Click on DNS Settings

  1. Click on Hosting & DNS
  2. Click on DNS Settings

3: Add or Update the A Record

Wix will provide you with an A record (usually an IP address).

    • Find the existing A record for your domain
    • Edit it and replace the current IP with Wix’s IP
    • If there is no A record, click Add Record
      • Type: A
      • Name: yourdomain.co.za
      • Value: Wix IP
    • Click Update

4: Add or Update the CNAME Record for “www”

Wix requires the www subdomain to point to their servers.

    • Locate the CNAME record for “www”
    • Edit the value to:
www → pointing.wixdns.net (or the value specified in your Wix dashboard)

    If missing, add it:

    • Type: CNAME
    • Name: www
    • Value: your Wix CNAME target
    • Click Apply

    5: Allow for DNS Propagation

Full global propagation may take up to 24 hours; however, sometimes this window can be shorter. We do, however, recommend allowing this time to ensure it updates fully.

    FAQs
